... so lately at work, i've been trying to learn Adobe AfterEffects to get ready to start doing some motion graphic design projects - and i figured that motion graphics might be a neat medium for my annual christmas card, so here it is, pretty much my first video work. it's short, but hey, i'm still learning... (click the image above to view the .mp4 video.)

happy holidays to you all. :)

ps.- the music is mum, "don't be afraid, you have just got your eyes closed" off of finally we are no one. i hope they don't mind me using a bit of it...

unbelievable. new orleans' NPR affiliate public radio station, WWNO, is about to actually become halfway decent! finally, starting in january, we get "fresh air" *every day* - the way it's supposed to be - and not just once a week! and plus, an extra half hour of "all things considered".

the lack of good NPR programming here has been a major pet peeve of mine for YEARS. you don't KNOW how happy this makes me. :)

damn. i really hate metal music, pretty much always have - but way back when, i was a bit of a pantera fan. which was really more like hardcore than metal, so it was okay. and phil anselmo (pantera's lead singer) is from new orleans, and his dad and my dad are friends. weirdness. anyway, apparently two former members of pantera were shot and killed - on stage - last night.

now that's just fucked up.

i don't talk about work much online, but this is strictly a positive thing, so i'll make an exception:

sometimes, in light of recent events - particularly elections - it's been easy to lose sight of the fact that we each as individuals do and can, in fact, make a difference in the political landscape. i'm really proud, therefore, to have been a part of a successful political campaign which resulted, on saturday, in the election of someone i know personally to be a good guy, and who happens to be a progressive democrat, strong on social and labor issues, to the Louisiana State Senate representing New Orleans. As part of my day job, I art directed and designed the campaign logos, yard signs, flyers billboards, print ads, and website - the whole deal - for now Senator Ed Murray - www.edwinmurray.com - who won in a landslide by 86%! ok, so it wasn't even close, and i'm sure my design talents weren't exactly a determinative factor, but still - you can't beat that kind of a win, and i'm glad to have been a part of it. nice mention of the election on blogforamerica, too.

not only that, but i've recently begun doing some freelance web work for the louisiana branch of a national organization in whose work i personally believe very strongly - but i won't get into that here for a while, at least not 'till the site goes live in january.

just saw spoon play at tipitinas. another unbelievably good show, simple, straightforward, catchy-as-hell rock. another band i don't understand why they're not much more popular, and it wouldn't surprise me if got that way... the crowd was great, a respectable number but not enough to make things uncomfortable, and everyone seemed to be really into the music, which it was hard not to be...

it's cold outside. i love it.
